AskCalc: AI Solver Companion — Finance & Math, Unit Converter
Last updated: April 9, 2026
We built AskCalc to be straightforward and respectful of your privacy. This page explains what data the app uses, why, and what stays on your device.
Quick Summary
1. What We Collect
What you type or send
- Math questions: The text you type into the AI solver is sent to our server to generate an answer.
- Photos: If you use the camera or photo library to scan a math problem, the image is compressed and sent to our server. This only happens when you tap the solve button — we never access your camera roll silently.
- Voice input: Your voice is converted to text by Apple's Speech Recognition service (which may use Apple's cloud servers). We only receive the resulting text — never the audio recording.
Your account (optional)
You can use the basic calculator, scientific calculator, and currency converter without any account. Sign-in is only needed to use AI features beyond the free credit limit.
If you choose to sign in with Apple:
- Apple creates a secure account for you. You can choose whether to share your name and email.
- We store your monthly AI usage count so your credit balance is preserved if you switch devices or reinstall.
- You can delete your account from inside the app at any time — your data is removed immediately.
Anonymous usage stats
We use PostHog to understand how people use the app — for example, which features are most popular or where people get stuck. Every event is anonymous:
- PostHog assigns a random device ID that is not linked to your name, email, or Apple ID.
- We track things like: app opened, paywall viewed, AI solver used, currency converter used.
- We do not use advertising identifiers or track you across other apps.
Device permissions
- Camera — to photograph a math problem for AI solving.
- Photo Library — to pick an existing photo of a math problem.
- Microphone & Speech Recognition — for voice-to-text math input. Audio is processed by Apple's Speech Recognition service and never sent to us.
Server logs
When your device talks to our server, standard logs are created (IP address, timestamp, request type). These are used only for security and abuse prevention, and are not stored long-term.
2. How We Use Your Data
- To answer your math questions using AI.
- To show live currency exchange rates.
- To activate and restore your premium subscription.
- To track your monthly AI credit usage so free limits are fairly enforced.
- To improve the app using anonymous usage data.
- To prevent spam and abuse on our server.
3. Third-Party Services
We work with these trusted services. Each only receives the minimum data needed to do its job:
- Firebase by Google — Handles sign-in and stores your AI credit balance. Privacy Policy
- Google Gemini — Primary AI model service that processes your math questions via Google's API. Privacy Policy
- OpenRouter — Fallback AI routing service used when Gemini is unavailable, providing access to additional AI models including OpenAI GPT-4o Mini and xAI Grok. Privacy Policy
- xAI — AI model (Grok) accessible via OpenRouter as a fallback option. Privacy Policy
- PostHog — Anonymous analytics (servers in the US). Privacy Policy
- Frankfurter — Free open-source API for live currency rates. No personal data is involved.
- Apple StoreKit — Handles all in-app purchases and subscriptions.
- Sign In with Apple — Secure Apple-managed authentication.
4. Creating and Deleting Your Account
Creating an account
Tap "Sign in with Apple" inside the app. Apple handles the authentication securely. We store only your Firebase user ID and your AI credit usage count — nothing else.
Deleting your account
Go to Settings → Account → Delete Account in the app. Deleting your account will:
- Permanently remove your AI credit data.
- Delete your sign-in record from Firebase.
- Revoke your Apple Sign In token with Apple.
This cannot be undone. If you sign in again with the same Apple ID, you start fresh.
5. How Long We Keep Data
- Everything stored on your device stays there until you uninstall the app.
- Your account data (credit balance) is kept until you delete your account.
- Anonymous analytics are kept according to PostHog's own retention policy.
- Server security logs are kept temporarily and then deleted.
6. Children
AskCalc is not directed to children under the age of 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
The app sends user-typed math questions to our server to generate answers, but does not retain voice recordings, images, or text after a response is delivered, and does not use any user data to train AI models.
If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us at Leangrottnak@gmail.com or use the in-app account deletion feature — we will promptly delete all associated data.
7. Your Choices
- Turn off camera, microphone, photo, or speech permissions anytime in iOS Settings → AskCalc.
- Use the app without signing in — an account is never required for basic features.
- Delete your account at any time from inside the app.
- Cancel or manage your subscription in iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
8. Changes to This Policy
If we make significant changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
